About Wire Horses

Stephanie Saunders, the artist and creator of Wire Horses, lives with her husband on the edge of the Rocky Mountains in Fort Collins, Colorado. Stephanie has been making wire sculptures since her Senior year at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

"One of my projects was to make a creative piece that expressed the source of my artistic inspiration. Figuring out the source was not a problem, I have been awestruck by the lines and movements of animals since before I could walk. The problem was what medium to use. It was obvious to me that I had to represent a horse, which is my most favored subject, but I had already used pencils, paint, clay, screen print, computer graphics and about a dozen other tools to create horses. I needed something different. Furthermore, I needed something that accentuated the lines of the horse's body, since that is where my inspiration is rooted. Finally after walking through the art store aimlessly, I came across some colored craft wire. I immediately knew that I had found the answer and I took it home to start at once. After six hours of design, I had my first wire horse."

Stephanie has been making wire horses ever since. She has expanded her collection to include many other animals including dragons, elk and moose. If you would like to contact Stephanie to request a wire sculpture, please use the contact form.
